Fusion: “Creation, Fall, Redemption” Week 8

Key Passages:

  • Genesis 12:1-3, Genesis 15

Main Point:

  • God chooses to use sinners.

Key Takeaways:

  • God chose to use Abram, a sinner.  He did not choose to use him because of anything Abram did.
  • Abram was “counted as righteous” (made right with God) because of his faith or belief.
  • We see Abram’s belief in God revealed through some of his actions.
  • We are the same as Abram, a sinner.  God does not choose to use us because of anything we do.

Application:

  • What does “counted as righteous” mean?  Was Abram counted as righteous because of anything he did?
  • Do you believe that God is your creator?
  • What actions in your life show that your faith is real?
  • What actions in your life show proud unbelief?  How would this change if you fully believed in who God is and what He has done for you?

Fusion:  “Creation, Fall, Redemption” (Week 7)

Key Passages:

  • Genesis 2 and 3, Hebrews 9:22

Main Point:

  • God loves us even when we don’t love Him.

Key Takeaways:

  • Sin made Adam and Eve stupid; they hid from God.  Sin makes us stupid; we move away from God.
  • God seeks Adam and Eve by asking them questions.  He desires to have a relationship with them because he loves them.
  • God seeks us as well, even when we turn away from Him.  He desires to have a relationship with us because he loves us.
  • God cannot have a relationship with Adam and Eve or us because of our sin.  Our sin must be paid for with blood.
  • God is merciful and provides partial redemption for Adam and Eve by killing an animal and covering Adam and Eve with the skins.
  • God promises to provide complete redemption through the blood of Jesus.

Application:

  • Why do Adam and Eve hide from God?  How does sin make you stupid?
  • What does your sin do to your relationship with God?  How can this be fixed?
  • How is God gracious and loving to Adam and Eve?  How is God gracious and loving to you?
  • Read Hebrews 9:22.  Sin requires the shedding of blood.  How do you view your sin?  What do you deserve?
  • How does God fix our sin?  How does he provide us with redemption?  How does that make you feel about your sin and about God?

Fusion: “Creation, Fall, Redemption” (Week 6)

Key Passage:

  • Genesis 3:8-19, Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23

Main Point:

  • Sin is the cause of chaos and death.

Key Takeaways:

  • There are consequences to Adam and Eve’s sin of proud unbelief: separation from God, shame, guilt and death.
  • Adam and Eve tried to fix their sin by covering themselves with fig leaves.  They could not fix their sin or the consequences to their sin.
  • There are consequences to our sin: separation from God, shame, guilt and death.
  • We try to fix our sin in many different ways.  We cannot fix our sin; we cannot avoid death on our own.

Application:

  • What are the results of this sin of proud unbelief (wanting to be like God)?  How do you experience all of these things in your life every day?
  • How do we try to fix our sin and/or the consequences of our sin?  Does any of this work?  Can we make any of this right?

Fusion: “Creation, Fall, Redemption” (Week 5)

Key Passage: Genesis 1:1-13

Main Point: We are just like Adam and Eve.

Key Takeaways:

  • Adam and Eve’s sin, proud unbelief, separated them from God.
  • We are just like Adam and Eve; we think we know what we need more than God knows what we need.

Application:

  • What reminded Adam and Eve that God is their authority, that they were not God?
  • What reminds you that you are not God?
  • What did Adam and Eve do that showed their proud unbelief, that they believed that they knew what they needed more than God did?
  • Would you have made the same choices as Adam and Eve?  How are you like Adam and Eve?
  • What are some ways that you have shown proud unbelief this week?
