Dioko: Rock Solid Faith

Key Passage:

  • 1 John 4:1-6

Key Takeaways:

  • Not everyone who claims to speak for God actually does.
  • We need to test whether or not what others say actually comes from God.
  • If someone does not acknowledge the truth about Jesus then they are not
  • from God.
  • Those who are of God, accept God’s message, while those who are of the
  • world reject God’s message and accept the world’s message.

Application:

  • What are the voices that you are letting speak into your life?
  • Are you testing the voices that you let speak into your life?
  • What do those voices say about Jesus?
  • Are you more inclined to listen to the voices of this world or the voices
  • of God?

Key Passage:

  • 1 John 3:11-24

Key Takeaways:

  • We should love one another.
  • Your love for believers is proof that you are a believer.
  • If you hate your brother or sister in Christ, then it reveals that you do not have eternal life.

Application:

  • Are your affections stirred for other believers just because they are believers?
  • Do you enjoy being around other believers even if they are not like you?
  • Are you currently harboring bitterness or ill will towards someone?
  • Do you openly desire the destruction of another believer?  Are you currently participating in the destruction of another believer through slander, gossip, or other sin against them?
  • How are you actively loving others?  What are you sacrificing for others?  Where are you refusing to sacrifice for others?
  • What needs do others have that you can meet?  Are you willing to meet them?
  • Are you just saying you love others or do your actions show that you really do?
  • Who do you struggle to love?  Are you fighting to act in love towards them anyway or do you give in to your feelings?  Do you realize that God is greater than your feelings?

Key Passage:

  • 1 John 2:28-3:1

Key Takeaways:

  • Those who trust in Christ are God’s children.
  • God’s children do what is right and do not persist in sin.
  • Those who do not live righteously and do not love other believers do not belong to God.

Application:

  • Believers are to find their identity in being a child of God.
  • Believers have the hope of one day being made like Christ, and, therefore, should pursue purity since Jesus is pure.

On Friday, October 15th through Sunday October 17th, high school students and their leaders from both Pelham and Powdersville campuses will depart for the 2010 At All Cost Fall Retreat at Pleasant Ridge Camp and Retreat Center.

Money seems so important.  We use the dollar value of something to determine how much should be sacrificed for it or how much we should pay to get it.  Yet, even Mastercard’s add campaign plays off the idea that some things do cost money, but some experiences are “priceless”.

Jesus actually uses similar language to help us understand who God is and what he’s done.  This year’s high school fall retreat, At All Cost, will tackle in four sessions the ideas surrounding the infinite worth of God and what our response should look like if He truly has supreme value.
